About The Entry
As Marvel Studios prepared to release The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Scopely saw an opportunity to celebrate Marvel’s original family by returning to the era that defined them. First introduced in the 1960s, the Fantastic Four embodied a cultural moment shaped by optimism, imagination, and retro-futurism. Rather than follow traditional game marketing conventions, MARVEL Strike Force—the #1 mobile RPG based on Marvel IP—set out to create a campaign that felt like entertainment first.
The objective was to honor the Fantastic Four’s 1960s origins authentically, use nostalgia to bridge longtime Marvel fans and new audiences, and reinforce MARVEL Strike Force’s reputation for creative experimentation and premium storytelling. The team’s in-game arrival would be introduced through tone and narrative, creating a campaign that felt like rediscovery rather than advertising.
The strategy embraced the storytelling language of the 1960s itself. Inspired by the era’s puppet-led television programs and variety shows, Scopely partnered with the iconic Bob Baker Marionette Theater to reimagine Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and The Thing as handcrafted marionettes. Each character was meticulously designed to express personality, movement, and team dynamics—translating superhuman powers into tactile, performance-driven charm.
Staged as a vintage television special, the campaign, titled “Isn’t That Fantastic?”, captured mid-century warmth, humor, and wonder. By leaning into an analog aesthetic in a digital-first landscape, the work stood apart visually and emotionally. Brand and gameplay integrations were subtle, allowing audiences to engage organically. Every creative choice felt true to Marvel canon to ensure authenticity and respect for fan expectations.
