Marvel Hero Tales

UK-based edtech gaming company Kuato Studios is the developer of educational game Marvel Hero Tales. Curated with teachers and child psychologists, the game is aimed to help children aged nine to eleven to improve their vocabulary, reading and storytelling skills through the use of interactive play.

Research from Juniper Education has shown that there has been a 25% decrease in year one pupils achieving the expected level of reading from the start of the pandemic to the autumn, with the ONS also highlighting a gap in educational content covered due to remote learning. Kuato’s mission is to motivate and engage children to experiment and play with language, which makes it well positioned to address the decline in reading engagement.

With 12 heroes possessing different personalities, styles, movements and associated dialogue and words, Marvel Hero Tales allows children to use unique words to build sentences, construct their stories, and decide how to save the day. For example, Hulk’s vocabulary (or word card deck), consists of ‘smashy’ words, whereas Spider-Man encounters adverbs such as ‘brilliantly’ or ‘amazingly.’ The most recent game update has incorporated parental controls that allow the parent to control the interactivity of the game, keeping them close to the child’s learning experience.

In an engineering frenzy that would make Tony Stark proud, Kuato’s developers have integrated creative cartoon artwork, adding revised animations and environments. To ensure the release is as educational as it is engaging, Kuato Studios has taken on player feedback and included a ‘mission map’ to help players navigate through the game and load quests. Marvel Hero Tales fans also asked for more special hero abilities and so the game rewards players using super-charged sentences, and what better way to finish an event than a HULK SMASH! Each hero has three unique finisher cards, which can be played when you build a powerful sentence worthy of an epic finisher.
