1 Please provide us with a brief bio of yourself and your background.
Hi, i'm Andrei Voytishin – art director and co-owner of Resight studio. I started my journey in computer graphics during my university years , even though I was majoring in economics. It was during this period that I discovered Cinema 4D and began learning it. I've been working as a freelance artist since 2011, and in 2013 my partner and I established our studio, which continues to thrive today.
2 What led you to become a Game Developer / Marketer?
Since childhood, I've been fascinated by the world of creativity and all its aspects. I've had a deep love for movies and computer games, and I've aspired to be a part of the process of crafting graphics and special effects.
3 What is your role in the company, and what traits should a game developer / marketing professional possess to be successful in their role?
Within our company, I take on the roles of an art director and director. To thrive in our line of work it's essential to be diligent, curious, and above all have a genuine love for what you do.
4 Tell us more about your studio / company.
We started as small studio, founded in 2013 by two friends. We brought together our expertise in game development and CG advertising to establish Resight, a distinctive boutique studio. Our team now consists of professionals from various backgrounds to tackle diverse tasks. Our focus is on continuous self-improvement as we chart our unique course within the industry. We're a group of artists excited to share our enthusiasm with you and go beyond the ordinary. We are naturally curious, open-minded, and driven by innovation.
5 What is your own definition of a great game?
A great game is one that makes you completely lose yourself in its world, causing you to temporarily forget that you're 36 years old with two kids.
6 Describe the genres of the game(s) your studio / company specializes in, as well as its main characteristics.
Our portfolio showcases trailers for a diverse array of games, spanning from the casual adventure strategy of Klondike to the hardcore action-fighting title Blood of Heroes and the football simulator UFL. For us, genre holds no significance. Our objective is to craft an impressive promotional asset for any game.
7 Tell us more about your ideation process.
The approach can vary significantly from one project to another. The extent of our creative freedom and the information provided by the client play crucial roles. Nevertheless, we consistently conduct extensive research, curate references, and brainstorm ideas within our studio. We make active use of various online tools to facilitate collaborative visual work.
8 Congratulations! As the winner of the NYX Game Awards, what does it mean for you and your team to receive this distinction?
Certainly, this is a notable accomplishment and a tremendous privilege for us! We deeply appreciate the jury's recognition of our hard work. It has been a long journey for us, and winning in two categories is particularly rewarding - it signifies that this success is well-deserved. We're eagerly looking forward to holding those statuettes.Thank you!
9 How has winning an international award help promote your company and game?
Securing the top spot in a respected international competition is a notable achievement for any studio and a substantial step toward boosting the brand's recognition in the global market.
10 What are the challenges of developing / marketing your winning entry(ies)?
Since we won in two categories I will divide our response into two sections: 1. UFL™ Journey | Game Video – Commercial Category: Our task was to create an commercial intro for a video series about the game UFL™. We needed to creatively showcase the game development process with a touch of irony, all while working within significant content constraints. 2. Blood of Heroes – Story Trailer | Game Video – Trailer Category: When we began this project, the game was still in its early development stages. Essentially, we had only a textual legend about the universe's creation. We had to visualize the entire story from scratch, starting with the concepts of gods and the entire universe. Our challenge was to convey the game world's brutality and immerse the audience in the storyline. Perhaps, among all our projects this one can be regarded as the most complex, both in terms of creativity and technical aspects. Ultimately, we brought it to life exactly as intended.
11 How has the country, you are based in, helped during your ideation process?
It's no secret that the environment in which we work and spend our personal time has a significant influence on the creative process and potential. In our case, we are fortunate to be surrounded by amazing individuals—talented, sincere, kind-hearted, and free-spirited. This, of course, contributes to personal growth and creative development. Additionally, the stunning natural beauty of the country and its captivating history also exert their influence.
12 What are the current trends in the game industry that you are most excited about?
The level of graphics is continually improving, and it's becoming more common to see companies produce game trailers using the very same game engines used to create the games themselves, without the need for separate cinematic trailers made in third-party 3D software. Certainly,it's impossible to overlook the rapid evolution (or maybe better say revolution????) of AI technologies in our industry. This is no longer a distant future but it's our reality.
13 What are the top THREE (3) favorite things about the gaming industry?
The entry barrier for quality gaming lowers each year. Nowadays, you can find numerous great games even on your phone. This is driven by several factors: • The standard of graphics is consistently improving. • The market continues to witness the emergence of cool projects with engaging gameplay and compelling storylines.
14 What resources would you recommend to someone who is searching to improve their game designs and development ideas / skills?
When it comes to graphics everything is quite standard - resources like Behance, Artstation, Vimeo, and YouTube.
15 Where do you see the evolution of the gaming industry in the next 5-10 years?
I anticipate that the VR/AR field will experience a significant push forward with the introduction of new devices. Overall, the market for consoles, mobile devices and the games designed for them is expected to show growth.
16 Who inspired you in your life, and why?
When it comes to advertising, I first came across The Mill studio in 2006 and ever since, it has been the leading name in the advertising industry. In addition to that, among the studios that inspire us I would also include Platige Image, Blur, and Digic Pictures.
17 What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?
Hard work and the aspiration for excellence are crucial. And a whole lot of patience and sleepless nights ????It's important to have a genuine passion for your work, and with that success is sure to follow.
18 Which THREE (3) Game Developers / Marketing Professionals would you nominate to participate in the NYX Game Awards?
Strikerz is a young and ambitious company with a challenging objective, and they are actively pursuing its realization. They represent a game-changing force, and I'm optimistic about their prospects. Larian Studios is a well-established company with a significant history and a unique perspective.
19 Do you have anything else, which we haven’t covered, that you would like to include in this interview?
We'd like to take a moment to extend our gratitude to the jury and the dedicated team responsible for the organization. We're thrilled to be a part of the extensive and imaginative community brought together by NYX Game Awards.
