Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons

In total, the Guild Wars 2 team has shipped thirteen game updates so far in 2022, with three more to come before the end of the year. These updates generally come with new content and rewards, quality of life improvements, balance updates, festivals, and bonus events.

The third expansion for Guild Wars 2, End of Dragons, released on February 28, 2022 and introduced players to a reimagined Cantha, a long-lost continent that was prominently featured in the original Guild Wars game. In addition to an epic storyline that concluded the elder dragon saga, a story told over the course of the past decade, the expansion added four open world maps for players to explore, multiple boss encounters, and a variety of features that were aimed at improving the player experience and give players new ways to play.

In August, the ArenaNet team released Guild Wars 2 on the Steam platform, coinciding with the tenth anniversary celebration of the game’s original release. Since then, over half a million new players have ventured into the game for the very first time, helping make 2022 a breakout year for Guild Wars 2.

In preparation for the Steam launch, the team spent the summer refreshing older content and addressing quality of life issues for new and veteran players alike, including a rework to many of the core game world bosses. As part of the Steam preparation efforts, the team began re-releasing Living World Season 1, narrative-focused content that was available for a brief period in 2013/2014, that is now available for all players for free, permanently. A successful engine upgrade from DirectX9 to DirectX11 was also completed ahead of the Steam release, unlocking new visual fidelity improvements for the development team and delivering noticeable performance improvements for players.
