Magic: The Gathering | Bloomburrow Trailer

Brazen Animation partnered with Wizards of the Coast to creatively develop and promote Bloomburrow, the latest Magic: The Gathering set. Bloomburrow is a land where woodland friends face off against calamity beasts, titanic and fearsome predators with elemental powers. The story follows a young mouse who joins her Big Brother and his friends as they set off on an adventure! But once in the wilds, they wander too far from the safety of their pastoral city and into the path of a monstrous Wildfire Wolf. To protect her family, our young mouse musters up incredible bravery to stand her ground against the fearsome creature.

We drew inspiration from a rich literary history, including "The Rats of NIMH," "Mouse Guard," and "Narnia," and combined them into something new. We brought this new world and our original heroes of Bloomburrow to life through a story that left the audience with a need to explore this world further. Our goal was to get viewers so invested in these characters - that by the time the danger arrives, they forget they’re being told a story at all.

As a directorial choice, we strongly emphasized the perspective of our tiny heroes, highlighting the immense scale, animalistic movement, subsurface macro details, and other subtle nuances of their world. The colossal environment around them and the intricate details of their world were carefully crafted to draw the audience in. The audio also emphasized natural elements, with music recorded by a live orchestra and sound effects sourced from nature. Our fire sounds like wind, our water like a creek, and the magic lies in the meticulous treatment of these elements.

When creating this piece, we knew the audience was craving authenticity. The handcrafted nature of the project resonated very well with viewers, boosting the Bloomburrow pre-order to quickly become a fan favorite.
