Sid Meier's Civilization VII

Sid Meier's Civilization VII was released worldwide on February 11, 2025. The video game is a 4X (explore, expand, exploit, exterminate) turn-based strategy game in which the player selects a civilization and develops it from a single early settlement at the dawn of human civilization through history to become a modern world power. The soundtrack features music composed and arranged by two-time Grammy-winning composer Christopher Tin, and series veterans, Geoff Knorr and Roland Rizzo, supported by a diverse array of hundreds of musicians showcasing many distinct musical traditions from around the world.

Christopher Tin's main theme for the game, “Live Gloriously,” is based on lyrics from The Iliad, Beowulf, the Popol Vuh, and Ramayana with a common theme that if you “do something magnificent before you die, your name will live forever.” It was performed by the Crouch End Festival Chorus and FILMharmonic Orchestra Prague.

Geoff Knorr and Roland Rizzo's in-game score underscores each playable civilization, and includes musicians, instruments, musical styles, arrangements of melodies, and original music specific to each corresponding musical tradition. Due to the unique ages system of the game, care was taken to represent music not just from a particular region and musical tradition, but also from specific time periods within those traditions. Recorded around the world with world-class musicians, the final result is a diverse range of music that samples the unique music that has spanned the age of human civilization.

In addition to the themes for each civilization, there are general “ambient” themes that help to set the general world tone, either peace or war, for each of the three ages, antiquity, exploration, and modern. These pieces are inspired by the instrumentation one might have found around the world during these time periods.

The soundtrack was mixed in surround and stereo, and is available in Dolby Atmos streaming on select streaming platforms.
